This pelican sitting on a pier on Marco Island, FL, extended his pouch when other pelicans arrived, as some sort of greeting. Notice the veins, also an interesting thing about pelicans is they predominantly breathe via their mouths, since their nostrils are clogged up by glands that can remove extra salt from the bloodstream. - 0707c

Debra Kewley is a passionate nature photographer and an artist who loves to create fun and colorful digital, AI and mixed media artwork. She was "Photographer-of-the-Month", February 2019, for the Florida Collier County Commissioners and she exhibited her photography that month in the County Government Center, Naples, FL.
